Good Monday morning. Coming off another week of ATH’s (S&P 500, Nasdaq)…spurred on by stellar Q2 earnings...our markets got another boost on Sunday as President Trump closed his latest trade/tariff deal, this time with the EU and its 27 member countries. The US-EU trade deal establishes a 15% tariff on the majority of European exports while maintaining 50% on steel and aluminum. It also includes EU commitments to purchase $750 billion in US energy and increase EU investments in the US by $600 billion, alongside orders for military equipment. 

As I watched the news yesterday I was struck by the mainstream medias take on the trade deal. Even their Trump-hating spin couldn’t hide the fact that Trump just flipped a $235 billion EU trade surplus into a strategic reset that now heavily favors the US. Critics called it chaos…that label was earned as an $11 trillion stock market meltdown played out in March/April….but at the end of the day, Trumps tactics have won out.
